Fundamental #31 – Keep things fun. While our passion for excellence is real, remember that the world has bigger problems than the daily challenges that make up our work. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Keep perspective. Joy and laughter bring us closer together and make us look forward to coming to work each day. Laugh every day.
“A day without laughter is a day wasted.” – Charles Chaplin
It’s a simple quote, a simple thought. However, from time to time, we all lose sight of one of the most important parts of life . . . fun! We have good days and bad days at work, but if we keep things in perspective, and keep them fun, we make it through those tougher days much easier than we would have otherwise.
How can you make things more fun at work without sacrificing productivity? Make games of your job . . . have competitions with your coworkers. Have competitions with yourself. Share good news with your coworkers. Throw a paper wad or two (I may or may not know how to do this J). Allow yourself to just be downright goofy. If you see someone struggling to be in a good mood, make it your mission to get a smile out of them. If you find yourself slipping into a bad mood, make it your mission to get a smile out of yourself.
Life is too short to be serious all the time. So, if you can’t laugh at yourself, call me . . . I will laugh at you.
