Do the right thing – Integrity is not about convenience. It’s an unwavering commitment to do the right thing in every action we take and in every decision we make, even when no one’s looking. Ask yourself, “Will I be proud of the decision I’m about to make?” We take a long-term view of success. Trust takes years to build, but can be lost in an instant. Make decisions that build strong, trusting relationships.
The opposite of “doing the right thing” isn’t necessarily “doing the wrong thing”. Doing nothing is just as damaging to our operations. Apathy drains profits and affects share value. Lack of engagement lessens productivity. The more employees there are, the easier it is for someone to say, “Somebody else will do it.” So, while someone may not technically be doing anything morally or ethically wrong, there is still a risk of damaging our Webco family with inaction. Do the right thing and help ensure the safety and success of our family.
- If you see a deficiency in our operation, do the right thing and speak up instead of waiting for the next person to catch it.
- If you see trash, do the right thing and pick it up even if you did not put it there.
- If you are coming to the end of your shift, do the right thing, and don’t leave the next person with a mess of parts and paperwork.
- If you see a person struggling, don’t just watch them struggle, do the right thing and help them out (remember, their success is our success).
In most cases, it doesn’t take a much more time or effort to do the right thing than it does to do nothing. Keep your eyes and ears open, and conscientiously decide today that you will do the right thing as each and every opportunity arises.
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” -Theodore Roosevelt
